Day 1 of the 2026 WMC Nordic Championships kicked off today with the individual 6K Classical race at Libby Hill in Gray. In the girls race, sophomore Ida Waterman of Gray New Gloucester is the 2026 WMC Classical champion. Her winning time was 22:21.5. The WMC Classical runner-up was Evelyn LaCasse of Greely with a time of 23:10.1. In third place was Amelia Prince of Freeport with a time of 23:38.0. In the boys race, junior Leif Hellstedt of Yarmouth is the 2026 WMC Classical champion. His winning time was 19:32.3. The WMC Classical runner-up was Xander Gordon of Yarmouth with a time of 19:32.8. In third place was Jackson Chalmers also of Yarmouth with a time of 19:44.9. The Freeport girls and the Yarmouth boys take the lead after day 1. Day 1 of the 2026 Aroostook Nordic Championships was held today at Caribou High School with the 5K classical individual start race. For the girls, Emma Graves of Caribou is the 2026 Aroostook Classical champion. Her winning time was 17.50.8. Marie Johnston of Presque Isle was the runner-up with a time of 18:24.9. In third place was Taylor York of Presque Isle with a time of 18:58.4. For the boys, Alden Reardon of Fort Kent is the 2026 Aroostook Classical champion. His winning time was 13:55.6. Silas Baser of Presque Isle was second with a time of 15:39.8. In third place was Ben Chartier of Fort Kent with a time of 15:55.0. The Fort Kent girls and the Fort Kent boys take the lead in the team scores after day 1. The 2026 Sassi Memorial 5K Classical race was held on Saturday at Black Mtn under blue skies and cold temperatures. In the girls race, Clara White of Orono was the race winner with a blistering time of 15:26.1. Mallory Raymond of Gould Academy was second with a time of 16:43.2. Rounding out the podium in third place was Grace Scott of Gould Academy with a time of 17:58.0. In the boys race, Alden Reardon of Fort Kent was the race winner with a great fast time of 14:08.1. Leif Hellstedt of Yarmouth was second with a time of 14:49.5. Rounding out the podium was Xander Gordon of Yarmouth with a time of 15:02.3.

The Maine Nordic team qualifier pursuit was held in the afternoon with the 2.7K freestyle. Skiers who qualified will recieve an email from the trip leader that requires immediate response. Qualifiers must respond by Wednesday, February 4th or their spot will be forfeited.
The 2026 KVAC Alpine Championships are on Saturday, February 7th and Thursday, February 12th. February 7th day 1 is the slalom competition at Titcomb Mtn. The first slalom run starts at 10:00am. Mountain Valley High School's Lily Boulanger won her second Giant Slalom race of the season at Black Mountain on Monday as she captured the women's 2026 Martin Luther King Giant Slalom. Boulanger had runs of 36.18 and 36.75 for a combined score of 1:12.93. Maranacook's Phoebe Bell came in second with times of 37.10 and 35.71 for a two-run total of 1:13.81. In third place was Camden Hills Junior Haley Marquis who had runs of 37.43 and 37.91 for a 1:15.34 total score.
In the men's race, Fort Kent Warrior Reed Michaud captured the gold with times of 34.49 and 34.48 for a combined score of 1:08.97. Grabbing the silver was Maranacook's Tristan Riley with times of 35.75 and 34.63 for a two-run time of 1:10.38. Taking the final podium position was Mt Blue's Finn Morton, who finished with times of 36.03 and 36.52 and a combined time of 1:12.55.
