We now spotlight Nathan Delamar of Maranacook who won the 2017 Class B Slalom state title.  We asked him about his best ski memories, his season goals, and his thoughts at the starting gate.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
This year I choose to take a step back from skiing. Instead of taking as many runs at night at Kent's Hill and on the weekends, I choose to have fun and enjoy my time on the hill. As for the state meet I took the same approach, seeing as it was my last year I wanted to enjoy every second of it. Getting overly concerned about my times or place wasn't an option, I just wanted to have fun.

2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
Again, I took a lot of pressure off of myself this year and as a result the state meet was less stressful.

3) What was going through your mind at the starting gate knowing that the conditions were soft and warm?
While in the start gate the only thing that was on my mind was skiing the flats well. Conditions are a variable that everyone has to deal with and instead of focusing on something I can't change I looked to focus on what I could.

4) What are some of your best memories from ski racing this past season?
My favorite part of ski racing this season was the State Slalom. Everything clicked, I skied out of mind and had two solid runs.

5) What is your favorite part about skiing and ski racing?
My favorite part of ski racing is the speed. I love pressuring my skis, taking tuck runs, skiing in the woods, the burning sensation in my legs after a long run of GS. Skiing never gets old, I love it all.

6) What are your plans for next year?
Next year I'll be attending Bates College and my plan is to continue skiing on the club level.

7) What were your goals for this season and did you achieve them?  What led to all of your successes?
My goals for this season were to relax and enjoy my final year of skiing. Keeping that in mind this year has truly been my most successful. I've enjoyed every second on the snow and as a result it has led to more confidence and better skiing.
