We will now spotlight Margaret Elder of Yarmouth, the 2015 Class B Giant Slalom State Champion.  We asked her about the state meet pressure and her season goals.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?

I trained hard all season, with my eyes on the state championship. With some good and bad outcomes, as a freshman, I took each regular season race as a learning experience. Throughout the entire season and during States week, I kept my focus and my moral high; I wanted to have two solid races.

 2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?

With nerves running high, I only focus on what I can control; my skiing. When it comes down to it, it's just me, and the course. I get in the start gate, take three deep breaths (Only three though– I'm superstitious), clear my head, and just ski. On another note, I always listen my music before my races, and that definitely keeps me sane.

3) What is your favorite thing about ski racing?

My team; I couldn't have asked for a better first year on the Yarmouth Ski Team. The chemistry on the team was incredible and we truly made each other better skiers everyday. The entire team was always their for one another, and never failed to make each other laugh. Our captains Anna Bouton and Jake Inger headed the team along with coach, Sam Eddy; because of them, our team was able to succeed.

4) Coming into the season, what were your goals and did you achieve them?

My goal was the be a state champion. I didn't know if this was a lofty goal because as a freshman, I didn't know who or how tough my competition would be.
