The 2025 Maine State High School Alpine Ski Team Selection will occur at the selection races (commonly referred to as The Shootout) on Thursday, Feb. 20th at Black Mtn. Race day details will be forthcoming as we get closer to that event. To qualify for The Shootout, an athlete must meet one of the two following criteria: 2025 SHOOTOUT GUIDELINES
Due to the Sassi being changed to a freestyle race on Saturday, January 25th, there will be no qualifier pursuit in the afternoon. 20 spots for the Maine U16 and EHSC Nordic teams will be selected from just the one Sassi freestyle race. Two spots will be selected from the day one classical race at the state meet. Skiers still need to complete the ONLINE REGISTRATION in order to determine who is also qualifying for the Maine Nordic teams at the Sassi race. UPDATED SELECTION CRITERIA All those who are in the top 20 of Sassi overall and those who are in the top 20 of the U16s in the Sassi will recieve an email and an invite to the Maine Team. Team leaders will find out if they want to go to one, both, or none from the email to them on Sunday (that email will have a form, payment, and list of requirements to compete before Feb 1).
The 2025 Pakulski slalom race was held on Saturday at Kent's Hill. In the boys race, Axel Frolen of Kent's Hill had the fastest combined time of 1:04.15 to win the race. In second place was Kaden Salsbury of Skowhegan witha combined time of 1:05.05. In third place was Adam Ellis of Maranacook with a combined time of 1:05.22. In the girls race, Phoebe Bell of Maranacook had the fastest combined time of 1:03.95 to win the race. Ellie Porter of Edward Little was second with a combined time of 1:04.00. Gianna Devivo of Oxford Hills was third with a combined time of 1:04.96. In the team scores, the Edward Little boys and girls swept the competition. For the boys, it was Edward Little (772) in first, Maranacook (771) in second, and Kent's Hill (735) in third. For the girls, it was Edward Little (783) in first, Maranacook (762) in second, and Mt. The 2025 Maranacook Waves race was held today at Titcomb Mtn in Farmington. It was a 5K Classical race where racers started in waves of 4 skiers and competed amongst other skiers of the same school class year. The top freshmen were Eli Chalmers of Yarmouth and Andrea Gunter of Waterville. The top sophomores were Daire Woodruff of Brunswick and Amelia Prince of Freeport. The top juniors were Alexander Gordon of Yarmouth and Clara White of Orono. The top seniors were Owen Dawson of Freeport and Leah Kramer of Waynflete. COMPLETE RESULTS

Clara White of Orono who placed 2ndThe Roy Varney Hornet Classic 5K Classical high school Nordic race was held today at Titcomb Mtn in Farmington. Originally scheduled to take place at the Maine Outdoor Wellness Center in Turner, it was moved to Titcomb due to snow conditions. The race, which is hosted by EL/Leavitt Nordic, is named in honor of Roy Varney who was a stand out skier for Leavitt. In the boys race, Beckett Cote of Messalonskee was the race winner with a time of 15:54.4. Henri McCourt of Mt. Blue was second and Owen Dawson of Freeport was third. In the girls race, Nora McCourt of Mt. Blue was the race winner with a time of 20:26.6. Clara White of Orono was second and Rowan Barry of Greely was third. In the team scores, the Mt.
