We now begin our state champion spotlights where we interview and highlight the state champions for each discipline in Alpine and Nordic.  Each day we will post a newIMG 2556 one.  Our first state champion spotlight is Brooke Boone of Yarmouth.  Brooke won the 2022 Class B Giant Slalom at Saddelback.  We asked her about her state meet preparations and about her favorite memories from the season.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
Before my races, I make sure to stay hydrated to ensure I will have a lot of energy when I am competing.

2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I deal with the pressure and emotions that come along while competing by thinking positively about what could happen.

3) What was going through your mind at the start knowing that the snow conditions were challenging?

Knowing the difficult snow conditions in the start gate I think about how I am going to have to ski differently based on the snow. Whether I know I need to pressure the downhill ski more or ski more conservatively, I envision myself skiing well through the course and crossing the finish line.

4) What are some of your best memories from ski racing this past season?
One of my favorite memories from this season is winning states as a team. It was exciting to be named state champions after working hard all season.

5) What were your goals for this season and did you achieve them?  What led to all of your success?
My goals for this season were not only to win races but to have fun while doing it. Last year I let the pressure get the best of me which made it difficult to have fun during the races. This season was definitely the best one yet because I allowed myself to have fun while still winning races. And I was able to do this by having such a strong friendship with my teammates that helped keep my mind off the pressure of winning and focused on the fun.
