Julia Pomerroy was victorios in the season's first women's alpine race under the lights at Black Mountain on January 4th. The Spruce Mountain senior had runs of 35.28 and 37.76 for a two-run total of 1:13.04 to win the highly contested Giant Slalom race, which had 84 skiers. Hampden Academy's Ana Baldwin finished in second with a two-run total of 1:13.95, with Edward Little's Jordan Cummings right behind her at 1:13.97.

Katie Ide of Maranacook took fourth with a score of 1:14.00, Abbie Tyler of John Bapst was fifth, and Mt. Abram sophomore Alice MacKay was sixth.

Maranacook took top team honors for the girls with 767 points, followed by Rangeley with 736 points, and Spruce Mountain with 713.

In the boys race, Mt. Blue senior Sam Smith bested a field of 100 skiers to capture the win in the GS with runs of 32.86 and 33.82 (1:06.70). Finishing in second place was Colby Vandecker of Oxford Hills. The Viking junior had a total of 1:07.60. He was followed by Winthrop's lone skier, Maguire Anuszewski, who finished with 1:08.15.

Fourth place went to Tommy Bancroft of Oxford Hills (1:09.31). Rounding out the top six were a couple of sophomores, Jacob Tyler of John Bapst (1:10.28) and Mt. Blue's Jack Kearing (1:10.55).

Oxford Hills topped the boys' team scores with 780 points. The Cougars of Mt. Blue were second with 765 points and Maranacook finished in third with 740 points.
