Collegiate Skiing at the USCSA Level

Aspiring to continue racing in college is a common desire for many high school athletes. While the D1 programs are an option for some student IMG 2963athletes, they may not be a good fit for all athletes. There is another option: the USCSA circuit! Many Maine skiers compete in this circuit but it has been the best kept secret in Maine. The secret is now out: there is a lot of great racing on the USCSA circuit.
USCSA allows athletes to find the perfect balance between academics and athletics. You can still train and race at a high level without sacrificing your personal life. You can find great racing across New England and compete at Nationals if you qualify. This year UMF and UMPI competed in races at PI, Titcomb, Black Mountain  and Mountain Top, VT. before travelling to Gore Mountain, NY for Regionals. It was great to have so many athletes come up to me and say hi from teams like Cornell, Castleton, and Clarkson.
Teams and athletes that qualified from that set of races then competed at Nationals at Lake Placid. Opening Ceremonies took place at night at the "Miracle On Ice" arena and athletes from all over the US and Canada then had 3 out of the 4 scheduled races on challenging courses at the Olympic Jumping course. The final day of racing featured a 15KM Classic race in an inch of rain but everyone found the racing exciting and fun!
Many Maine athletes were in the Top 20 in each race and shared their excitement for the USCSA series of races. Andrew Siegel won the 7.5km FS but isn't included in the results because UVM also has a D1 program.
Next year Nationals will be out west, which will be a great trip! Check out the action!!!  CLICK HERE for more information about the USCSA in the Eastern division.  Results can be found at https://www.uscsa.com/results.html#/2020/National%
